HE TOOK TIME FOR OTHERS – WHAT ABOUT YOU
Rahab, a prostitute of the Canaanite city of Jericho, is known for helping the Israelites defeat the pagan city of Jericho and for her place in the lineage of Jesus Christ…The king of Jericho heard two Israelite spies were in the city and sent troops to search for them…but Rahab hid them. Her courage and actions saved her entire family. (Jesus does not forget what you do for God) (23 Whatever you do [whatever your task may be], work from the soul [that is, put in your very best effort], as [something done] for the Lord and not for men. Col. 3:23)
The “Stone” referred in John 8:5 means “let him first of you”: not “let him cast the first stone.” This was the duty of the witnesses. In John 8:7-9: When they continued asking Him – that is pressed him with great importunity to give an answer, thinking, no doubt, that they had Him at a great advantage: He lifted up Himself, and, without replying directly to their demand, said, He that is without sin among you – He that is not guilty (his own conscience being the judge) either of the same sin or some nearly resembling it, let him – as a witness; first cast a stone at her. 5 Now in the Law Moses commanded us to stone such women [to death]. So what do You say [to do with her—what is Your sentence]?” 6 They said this to test Him, hoping that they would have grounds for accusing Him. But Jesus stooped down and began writing on the ground with His finger. 7 However, when they persisted in questioning Him, He straightened up and said, “He who is without [any] sin among you, let him be the first to throw a stone at her.” 8 Then He stooped down again and started writing on the ground. 9 They listened [to His reply], and they began to go out one by one, starting with the oldest ones, until He was left alone, with the woman [standing there before Him] in the center of the court. John 8:5-9’
The Lord’s meaning was, persons exceedingly zealous in getting punishment upon others, ought to be free themselves at least from gross sins. He put them to shame by the impression on their minds and brought them to such strong convictions of sins, He made them afraid to stay, lest Jesus made their sins public. Again, He stooped down and wrote on the ground – giving them an opportunity to withdraw, their own minds convicted them.
Have you not discriminated among yourselves, and become judges with wrong motives? ~James 2:1-4
