Guard Against the Deceitfuless of Riches
In His parable of the sower, Jesus warned about the cares of life and the deceitfulness of riches. They choke the Word and make it unfruitful and unproductive in our lives. This is a very real danger and we must guard against it—especially in the materialistic society in which we live today. It measures success by the amount of riches that a person possess. 19 And the cares of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other things entering in, choke the word, and it becometh unfruitful. Mark 4:19
If we fail to guard against the deceitfulness of riches, we will be deceived into trusting and depending upon riches instead of having faith and trusting God. The deceitfulness of riches leads to temptation and other harmful lusts. Apostle told Timothy: 9 But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition. 1 Tim. 6:9
Money (wealth of the world) is not evil. The love of riches and worldly possessions lures and deceives people away from their faith and trust in God. One of Satan’s strategies is to get Christians involved with the cares of this world—the day-to-day struggles of providing for their families—and the deceitfulness of riches until they lose sight of the goals that God gave to them to reach a lost and dying world with the gospel. It is very important for you to have a clear understanding of what Christ taught concerning prosperity, money, giving, and receiving, and how He expects you to give today.
For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.
~1 Tim. 6:10
