DEMONSTRATING THE CHARACTER OF JESUS
We are in a season where listening will be far more necessary than responding; where understanding is more necessary than being understood. We need to be slower in responding and reacting and be very quick to listen to what is being said, or in some cases, what is not being communicated, but implied. This doesn’t just apply to our spiritual ears, but to our natural ears as well. 19 Understand this, my beloved brothers and sisters. Let everyone be quick to hear [be a careful, thoughtful listener], slow to speak [a speaker of carefully chosen words and], slow to anger [patient, reflective, forgiving]. James 1:19 AMP
Demonstrating the Character of Jesus
There is a significant testing of our character taking place. Do we have the characteristics of Christ? Will the manifest love of Christ show through in the way we respond and in the way that we act? We must be slow to anger and quick to love. 8 The Lord is merciful and gracious,
Slow to anger and abounding in compassion and loving kindness. Psa. 103:8
But the Greatest of These Is Love
We are in a time where Jesus is going among His people and checking for fruit. He is looking for the fruits of the Spirit. He is looking to see if we have love. The greatest demonstration of power the earth has ever seen was the love that put Jesus on the Cross and then rose Him from the grave just three days later. 37 And Jesus replied to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 The second is like it, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself [that is, unselfishly seek the best or higher good for others].’ 40 The whole Law and the [writings of the] Prophets depend on these two commandments.” Matt. 22:37-40
This Is Our Opportunity
We are being faced with temptation after temptation to lash out and live from the flesh. But at the same time, we are being given opportunity after opportunity to display (show, exhibit, demonstrate, reveal) Who Jesus is. Are you Demonstrating the Character of Jesus?
But like the Holy One who called you, be holy yourselves in all your conduct [be set apart from the world by your godly character and moral courage].
~1 Peter 1:15
